What stays on your device
Your saved library, edited scripts, brand defaults and videos you record with the teleprompter are stored locally. A recording is not automatically uploaded. Camera and microphone access are used only for a recording you choose to make. Importing a reference selects a specific video; it does not give us your entire photo library.
What the service receives
The app creates a random service identity and private authentication token; no name, email or social login is required. Our server stores a hash of the token, the random ID, language, usage counters, job states and subscription status. When you explicitly consent to AI processing and request a brief, we receive the idea, audience, product facts, notes and other fields you choose to submit. If you consent to a reference-video upload, we receive that file too.
Do not include information you do not have permission to share. A reference URL is metadata, not permission for us to access a private account or download a platform video.
AI provider and consent
We send the submitted brief and notes to OpenAI to generate a script and check submitted and generated content for safety. Sampled images and available transcripts also pass through these checks; they are automated and may make mistakes. For an imported reference video, our server extracts sampled images and, when available, audio. OpenAI processes those images and the audio/transcript; the full original video is not sent as a permanent hosted library. Sparse frames do not show every event or continuous motion. The result states these limitations.
We request non-stored API completions. OpenAI says API content is not used to train models by default; its standard abuse-monitoring retention for text/image completions can be up to 30 days, subject to stated exceptions. Our use does not have a verified Zero Data Retention agreement. Audio transcription has separate retention terms. See OpenAI's data controls. Revoking consent prevents new submissions; it does not undo a completed provider request.
Purchases and infrastructure
Apple or Google processes payment. RevenueCat receives your TakeBrief service ID, purchase and subscription records, and technical app/device/network information needed to verify access. We do not receive your card number. Store purchase records and billing are governed by the store and RevenueCat policies. DigitalOcean hosts our isolated service. Cloudflare may handle DNS and delivery/security traffic. Network providers necessarily receive connection information.
We do not sell personal data, show third-party ads, collect IDFA for advertising, or use a separate marketing-tracking SDK in version 1.0. Service IP addresses are transformed into keyed hashes for short-lived rate limits instead of being stored as raw IPs in our application database. Infrastructure security logs may contain connection information.
Store review access
Store reviewers may use a private, expiring access code. This creates a separate review identity and workspace, labeled in the app. Review access is not a paid subscription and does not charge the store. Leaving it restores the regular workspace; deleting review data removes only that review identity and its files.
Retention
- Raw uploaded videos are deleted from our active service after a job completes or fails. Unused uploads expire within one hour; abandoned processing files are cleaned after interruption.
- Submitted input is removed from the job record when processing finishes or fails. Generated results remain on the server for up to 30 days so interrupted downloads can resume. Your local library remains until you delete it.
- Anonymous identity, subscription and completed-job usage records remain until you delete your service account, to enforce quotas. Reports about a result remain for up to 90 days or until account deletion.
- Application logs exclude prompts, videos, tokens and payment details. Operational backups, if present, age out within seven days; they are not used to restore deleted accounts into active use.
- If you email support, we receive your email and the information you choose to send. Support messages are retained while needed to handle the request and applicable record obligations; ask us to delete them when the issue is resolved.
Deletion and your choices
Use Settings → Delete my data in TakeBrief to delete the service identity, jobs, uploads and RevenueCat customer record, and then the app's local library and recordings. An active AI job must finish before deletion can complete; errors leave a retry path. Deleting a single local library item does not immediately remove its temporary server job; the 30-day limit or account deletion applies. To request deletion without reinstalling the app, use our deletion page.
Deleting data does not cancel a store subscription. Cancel separately through Apple subscriptions or Google Play subscriptions. Stores may retain financial records under their own requirements.
You can decline AI processing and still use local editing and recording. You can decline camera or microphone permissions and still use scripts. Operating-system permissions can be changed in device settings.
Rights, location and children
Depending on your location, you may have rights to request access, correction, export or deletion and to object to certain processing. Email the contact above; we may need to verify ownership without asking for your password or payment-card details. Data may be processed outside your country by our providers. TakeBrief is a general creator tool, not an app directed at children under 13. Do not submit a child's personal information without the necessary permission.
We will publish material policy changes here with an updated effective date.
